What to Expect at Judd Falls Near Crested Butte
Centrally located between the cities of Aspen and Crested Butte, the Judd Falls trail is one of the best day hikes around Crested Butte! This hotspot for outdoor enthusiasts and novice hikers alike leads to Judd Falls itself, a narrow waterfall. Aside from the falls, there are plenty of natural sights to take in. In its entirety, the Judd Falls trail is an easy 2-mile (round trip) hike that takes approximately an hour to complete. Visitors often take their young children and pets to enjoy this activity, since the path is mostly shaded and short. Despite its length, the Judd Falls trail features a 166-foot elevation gain. It’s also good to know that the final stretch of the trail is fairly rocky; choose your footing wisely.

How to Get There
Judd Falls is most accessible from Crested Butte or Mt. Crested Butte. From either of these towns, take Gothic Road north past Mt. Crested Butte. Go right past Crested Butte’s Snodgrass Mountain Trail parking lot, then descend into the East River Valley for eight miles. Once you pass the tiny town of Gothic off the West Elk Loop Scenic Byway, park at the Copper Creek lot on the right side of the road. If you’d rather park closer to the trailhead, there is parking located farther up the road, but it is only accessible via SUV.
